The Ultimate Guide To College Dorm Parties

How can you have a good time at college without a party? What’s the point of college if you don’t party?

Haha, it’s just a joke. As a former college student who took 5 years to complete my education (don’t judge me), I’ve been to my fair share of wild dorm parties that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

Dorm Parties: How Do You Host One?

Before you throw a party in your dorm room, here are a few things you should know:

How to get your RA’s attention

Dorm parties aren’t easy to throw without the RA (resident assistant) shutting them down minutes after they start. Make friends with your RA! RAs can be nice, and they may not even care if you throw a party as long as the noise is kept to a minimum. While some RAs can be super strict and not tolerate parties in the dorm, others can be more relaxed.

If you’re planning to throw a party in your dormitory, make sure to check the policies first and speak with your Resident Assistant. There’s nothing worse than getting caught!

Don’t Forget To Tell Your Neighbors

I have some advice for you. You don’t want your neighbors to snitch on you, so invite them to your collage dorm party! HAHA! You gotta do what ya gotta do!

However, if they aren’t interested in partying with you, please be respectful! If you want to play music, let them know what time your party begins and ends. The majority of the time, people are fine with you having a party next door, unless you’re hosting it during finals week. I mean! It’s college! It’s fine to play loud music, but don’t make the walls vibrate by blasting it so loud.

Don’t Leave Your Valuables!

I can’t stress how important this is to all of you! The laptop, speaker, and skateboard of one of my best friends in college were GONE after she hosted a party at her house!

That’s a lot of money she lost!

The worst part is that there were no security cameras around, so she wasn’t able to recover any of the stolen items. In a party full of crazy (and sometimes broke) college students, leaving your valuables unattended isn’t the best idea.

Food And Drink Ideas For A College Party

Food will make your party guests happy if you provide them with some to munch on. The food does not have to be extravagant. A few snacks will do! Alternatively, you can ask your guests to bring snacks as their “entrance fee”; this way, you won’t have to spend extra money on food.

Here are some food ideas popular at college parties:

  • Chips & Salsa
  • Sliders with Ham & Cheese
  • Strawberries covered in chocolate
  • Donuts
  • Tortilla Wrap-Ups
  • Hotdogs
  • Pizza (How could I forget!?)
  • Macaronni and Cheese Bites
  • Party Mix
  • Grilled Cheese
  • Burgers and French Fries

several dorms have a no-tolerance policy regarding alcohol. we have some suggestions for non-alcoholic drinks:

  • Lemonade with strawberries (recipe from Delish)
  • ‘Mojitos made with watermelon (recipe from Taste)
  • A Couple Cooks’ Virgin Pina Colada
  • Spicy Southern Kitchen’s Peach Bellini Mocktail (recipe)
  • Sangria with virgin cranberries and basil (recipe from Delish)
  • (Recipe from Taste) Orange Mango Crush
  • Cooler with blueberries and ginger (recipe from Cook with Manali)

Spotify Playlist: Make a Bomb

College parties are successful when you have a killer Spotify party playlist. Obviously, the type of music you play at your party will vary depending on the theme. However, some classic Hip Hop tunes will never go amiss. One of my favorite dorm party playlists! I love the vibe, and the crowd always gets into it!

This playlist is DEFINITELY for you if you like Bay Area slaps!

Choosing the right speakers is also essential! If you try to play music off your phone or laptop, it won’t work because, well, I mean… HELLO? The bass isn’t there.

JBL’s speakers make the best party speakers without a doubt. While the JBL Partybox 300 is great for large parties (such as frat parties), if you’re just hosting a dorm party with 20 people, this JBL model should work just fine.
